Video 1/365 goes up tomorrow… LET’S GET READY TO RUUUUUUUUUUMBLE!

The Fabulous Sascha Assbach!

When I first decided that I wanted to do this whole 365 days of videos project I decided to take a look around to see if there were other people doing the same thing so that I could see how it was going for them, ask them for advice and most importantly steal all of their video ideas and pass them off as my own!!  Okay, I kid, I kid…

Anyhow, in my search I discovered Sascha Assbach, a designer from Cologne, Germany, who started the 365 video project last year and has now made around 220 videos.  I asked him a few questions about the project and he gave some interesting responses:

I asked Sascha what sparked his interest in this project and he told me that he had taken part in a Flickr group almost two years ago called 365 Self Portraits, in which members took a self portrait every day for a year.  He successfully completed the project, taking a picture of himself every day for a year.  He says “I learned a lot at this time about people, myself, techniques and photography.”  He went on to say that when a friend of his at ipernity, David, began a 365minutes video group he jumped at the chance, wanting to take the Flickr project a step further with video.

For this project, Sascha is creating a 1 minute long personal video each day.  He says that, on average, each video takes between 30 minutes and 4 hours from the shooting phase to the final upload depending on the complexity of the video.  His videos do not have any predetermined theme and consist basically of whatever comes to mind on a given day.  He says he comes up with his ideas “spontaneously, mostly.  I usually don’t have any concept before I shoot.  It’s in the process, since a lot of the videos are part of my (self) therapy.  It is created as I am working on it mostly.”

The feeling that I get from Sascha is that sometimes it can be difficult coming up with an idea and sometimes the entire project can become completely tiring and stressful but if you push on you can come up with some wonderful stuff and the whole thing is worthwhile.  I find him to be completely inspiring!

It’s almost June 1!

Well, there are only 9 days left until June and you know what that means– 8 days left until 365 Video Blog officially begins as well as 9 days left until I officially begin to drive myself slowly insane by making 365 videos.  I can’t wait and I hope you’ll come back frequently to see my videos.  Hooray!!!

Happy 60th Birthday Israel!

Yesterday Israel celebrated it’s 60th year of independence.  Israeli Independence Day is one of the most exciting days in Israel and so there was tons of fun stuff going on.

In Tel Aviv, where I live, they had a great fireworks display at Rabin Square which is the location of City Hall.  In addition to fireworks there were lasers and a slide show projected onto the City Hall building and I thought it was super!!

Then there was an air show arranged by the Israel Air Force (IAF).  Lots of helicopters, fighter jets and an acrobatic flight team flew around over the beach in Tel Aviv.  Also super!

Anyhow, I videotaped a little bit of the fireworks and the air show and put together a little something to wish Israel a happy 60th birthday.  The music in the video is “Hatikva”, Israel’s national anthem, being performed by Tipex.  It is my personal favorite version of Hatikva.
